Your profile

Your name, email address and timezone are in Settings, then Profile. Your password is on the Password tab beside it. Both pages are about you rather than about your newsletter, so nothing on either one is visible to a reader.

Everything a reader does see is set per newsletter: the name, the from address and the reply-to address all live in sender details, because one account can run several newsletters with different names on them.

Your name, and where it appears

The name on your profile is how Issue Mint addresses you: in the dashboard, and in every email we send you about your account. It can be up to 120 characters long.

It is not a display name and not a byline. If you want your own name in an issue, write it in the issue, which is what the composer is for.

Changing your email address

Changing your email address saves immediately, and Issue Mint then asks you to confirm the new one before you carry on. A confirmation link goes to the new address, it lasts an hour, and the profile page offers to send a fresh one if you need it.

This address is the only one Issue Mint writes to, so it is worth keeping current. Billing receipts, the warnings that arrive before a hosted sending limit takes effect, import reports and sponsorship enquiries all go there, and every one of them is listed in the emails we send.

Your timezone, and what it actually governs

Your profile timezone does two things: it is the default a new newsletter starts with, and it is the timezone dates are shown in when Issue Mint emails you. It does not by itself decide when anything goes out.

Each newsletter carries its own timezone, set in that newsletter’s settings, and that is the one scheduling uses. So a publisher in Lisbon running a New York newsletter sets the profile to Europe/Lisbon and the newsletter to America/New_York, and both dates read correctly. The picker holds the full list of standard timezone names rather than a shortlist, so find yours by region and city.

Changing your password

The Password tab asks for your current password once and the new one twice. The minimum is eight characters and Issue Mint imposes no other rule: no forced symbol, no enforced mixture of cases and no expiry that makes you change it again in ninety days.

Long and unique beats short and clever, and how credentials are held explains what happens to it after you press Update password. Two things a password change does not do: it does not sign you out in other browsers, and it does not disconnect a browser paired with the extension. Disconnecting one of those is its own action.

If you cannot get in

Use the forgot password link on the sign-in page. The reset link lasts an hour, and a fresh one can be requested once a minute.

Five failed sign-ins from the same address and network pause that combination for a minute, which is there to slow somebody guessing rather than to punish you for mistyping. If the reset email does not arrive, check spam for a message from hello@mail.issuemint.com before assuming something is broken.

What the profile page does not have

Issue Mint has no two-factor authentication yet, no list of the devices you are signed in on, and no way to add a second person to an account.

Saying so is quicker than letting you look for them. The one list of connected things that does exist is connected browsers, which covers the Chrome extension and nothing else.
