Privacy policy

Two kinds of people are involved

Issue Mint holds data about two groups, and the distinction matters. Account holders are the people who publish newsletters using Issue Mint. Subscribers are the people who receive those newsletters. For subscriber data, the publisher is the data controller and Issue Mint is the processor acting on their instructions.

What we collect from account holders

• Your name, email address, password (stored hashed) and timezone.
• Billing details, held by Stripe. We never see or store your card number.
• Your sending credentials, if you choose to connect your own sending account, encrypted at rest and never displayed back to you in full.
• How you found us: the landing page, referrer and any campaign parameters present when you registered.
• Ordinary server logs, which contain IP addresses for a limited period.

What we hold on behalf of publishers

• Subscriber email addresses and optional first names.
• Subscription status, source and confirmation timestamps.
• Delivery records per issue, and open and click events where tracking is enabled.
• IP addresses attached to click events, stored as a hash rather than in the clear.

Email sending

By default, Issue Mint sends newsletter issues on the publisher's behalf using our own sending account with Amazon Web Services. Issue content and subscriber email addresses therefore pass through infrastructure we control, and Amazon acts as our subprocessor for delivery. We use that access to send the issue and to record delivery, bounce and complaint events, and for nothing else.

A publisher may instead connect their own Amazon SES or SMTP account, in which case issue content passes through infrastructure they control and their provider is their processor, not ours. Publishers above 15,000 subscribers send this way.

Transactional email from Issue Mint itself, such as verification and billing notices, is always sent using our own provider, whichever sending mode a publisher is on.

Cookies on this website

This site sets two cookies, and only when you arrive from somewhere else, such as a search result, a link on another site or an advertisement. They record which campaign or referring site brought you here, which page you landed on and when, so that if you go on to open an account we know which of our efforts was worth the money. One records the first visit and the other the most recent. Both last 90 days.

They contain no personal data: no name, no email address, no identifier that follows you anywhere else, and nothing is shared with an advertising network. Arriving here directly sets nothing at all. There are no analytics cookies on this site and no advertising cookies, which is why you have not been asked to dismiss a banner.

If you would rather not have them, blocking cookies for this site costs you nothing: every page works identically without them.

Processors we use

Stripe for payments, Amazon Web Services for hosting and storage, and our own transactional email provider. A current list is available on request. We do not sell personal data and we do not share it for advertising.

Retention

Account data is kept while your account is open, and for sixty days after cancellation so the account can be restored. After that it is deleted. Subscriber data is kept until the publisher deletes it or closes the account. A publisher can hard-delete an individual subscriber, which removes the personal data and leaves only anonymous aggregate counts.

Your rights

Under UK and EU data protection law you can ask for a copy of your data, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, or object to processing. Write to info@issuemint.com and we will respond within one month.

If you are a newsletter subscriber and want to be removed, the fastest route is the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any issue. If you would rather not use it, contact the publisher, or contact us and we will pass the request on.

Cookies

The marketing site sets no analytics or advertising cookies. The application uses a session cookie to keep you signed in, and reads a first-party attribution cookie set on this site when you register, so we know which page brought you. Nothing here is shared with an ad network.

Changes

Material changes will be announced by email to account holders before they take effect. The date at the top of this page always reflects the current version.
