Collecting signups from a Notion page

Notion cannot run either Issue Mint snippet, and there is no setting that changes that. A Notion page holds no raw HTML, a published Notion site runs no script of yours, and a code block displays code rather than executing it, so there is nowhere for the script embed or the plain HTML form to go.

That is worth stating plainly, because the snippets are two lines long and look like they ought to work anywhere. What follows is what does work, in the order most people find useful.

Link to your newsletter’s own site

The simplest answer is a link, and it is a better one than it sounds. Every newsletter has a website from the day it is created, at its {slug}.issuemint.com address or on your own domain once that verifies, and the subscribe form sits on its home page, its archive and every issue page.

So a Notion page needs one line: a link, or a Notion button, pointing at the site every newsletter gets. Readers see your name, your colours and your recent issues before they decide, and there is nothing to keep in step in two places.

What an embed block can and cannot do

Notion’s embed block takes a URL, not markup. Given your newsletter’s address it shows the site inside a frame on the Notion page, which Issue Mint allows on purpose: newsletter sites are left framable so that curators can put their archive inside a site they already run.

Reading works well that way. Subscribing from inside the frame is the part not to depend on.

If you publish Notion pages through a site builder

Several tools turn Notion pages into a website of their own, and most of them have a field for custom code. That field runs a script where Notion will not, so the script embed goes there rather than into Notion.

Two things still have to be true. Both parts of the snippet need to end up on the same page, so the tool has to let you place a <div data-issuemint></div> somewhere as well as the script tag, and the script has to be allowed to make one request back to us for your colour and font. Where a builder offers only a footer script field and no way to put markup in the page, the script loads, finds no container, and does nothing at all.

What Issue Mint does not do with Notion

There is no Notion integration. Issue Mint does not read a Notion database, does not write to one, and cannot pull links out of a Notion page into your library, so a reading list kept in Notion stays a manual copy and paste.

If gathering links is the reason Notion is in your workflow, the browser extension is the part of Issue Mint that replaces it: it saves a page into your library from wherever you are reading, with its title and source already filled in.
